The Mississippi Department of Education awards almost $10 million grants to five universities to help fight the state’s teacher shortage.

William Carey University and Delta State received about $1.9 million each while the University of Southern Mississippi, Jackson State University, and Mississippi State received grants of about $2 million.

The grants are part of the Mississippi Teacher Residency and they support graduate degree programs.

Sexual harassment rife in UK universities, warns staff union – The Guardian

Sexual harassment is “endemic” in universities and colleges, with one in 10 staff members saying they have experienced sexual violence in the past five years, according to a report.

Women were nearly two-and-a-half times as likely to experience sexual violence as men, while staff on insecure contracts, those with disabilities, LGBTQ+, or black, Asian or minority ethnic were also at greater risk, according to a survey of nearly 4,000 staff members by the University and College Union.

At the Dec. 9 Regional School Unit 73 Board of Directors meeting, Robyn Raymond, director of Spruce Mountain Adult and Community Education shared results of a childcare needs assessment survey distributed for eight weeks in the Jay/Livermore/Livermore Falls area.
